To Blog or Not to Blog?

Over the years, I have been pondering on what I want to do with my life and how I, as an introvert, can give something meaningful back to society. For a long time, I wasn’t sure how to do that, but I realized that there are three things that I like: writing, teaching things to beginners, and solving problems, especially those I can solve by using data and technology. When I put these three things together, I thought they all pointed to blogging. For the last three years I’ve been saying that I’m going to start blogging, and although I kept telling myself that I didn’t have enough time, I realized that I just never had the courage to do it. This year, however, I’ve decided to go ahead and “just do it”!

The best thing about living in the Information Age is that there is a plethora of data available and an abundance of technologies that can help us to turn data into valuable insights. The Data Model will be used to encourage more people to get involved with Data Science, Analytics and Engineering by highlighting the intersection between facts, figures, technology and problem-solving. It will be a collection of experiences, advice, resources, relevant news, and projects as I navigate through my first career in tech, and continue learning more about the world of data. My goals are to expose other young people, especially females, to a world that I’m enthusiastic about, and hopefully empower them to pursue tech projects and careers that fulfill them. Although this platform will be primarily used for blogging and sharing resources, I will also be hosting competitions to start stimulating the minds of my followers and supporters. I have every intention of guiding you towards creating your own projects or solving your own problems with a data-driven approach.

Lastly, in case you were wondering, the name of the blog is simply a play on words with the actual definition of a data model. A data model is a representation of how data is organized in an information system and how they relate to each other. We will be investigating how we can take data, explore relationships between them, and answer pertinent questions. If you were also wondering who I am, my name is Odessa Elie and I’m a Data Science and Analytics Consultant. I’ve only been in the field for about six months, so I’m still learning and adding skills to my toolkit. However, I’ve been working on data projects and preparing for a career in this field since 2018. If you would like to learn more about me, take a look at my About page, where you will find information about my background and social media platforms.

With no further ado, The Data Model is live, so let’s start learning together!
